RUGBY LEAGUE: The way rugby league is managed in Dalby is set for a major overhaul.

The Diehards newly appointed committee is focused on bridging the gap between Dalby’s junior and senior clubs.

In an effort to stop the bleeding of talent and the depletion of their player pool, the Diehards are committed to establishing key figureheads and leaders to work between the clubs.

“We really want to establish a smooth transition from the juniors at the Devils to the seniors at the Diehards,” new Dalby Diehards president Dan Malney said.

“We are aiming to stop the drop off from Devils to Diehards.”

As part of the change Mark Harms and Kerry Carmichael will act as “conduits” between the clubs.

“(Mark) Harms and (Kerry) Carmichael are going to be the guys that establish that connection between the clubs and help create that one club culture and unity,” Malney said.

The club is also counting on the appointment of their new A-grade head coach Jason Connors.

Manley hopes the appointment of the league veteran will entice players to commit long-term to the club.

“He’s a former Q-Cup player and we’re hoping his experience and wealth of knowledge will help retain current players within the club,” Malney said.

“We’ve brought him in to shake things up.

“He will be a great asset for the development of the players.”

The club is aiming to achieve their goal within the next three to five years.
