The year may be early but there’s no time to waste for the Dalby Diehards who have made their first signing for the season.
Announced on Thursday night, Dalby’s senior rugby league club shared they had signed halfback Josh Chappell who started his footy career with the Tara Panthers, played as a Dalby Devil and even joined the Parramatta Eels for three years.
The homegrown player spent 2023 with the Sunny Coast Falcons before heading back to Dalby and was included in the ‘70 Qld rugby league players making a name for themselves in 2023 list’.
“Chappell brings a great kicking game and can control the game exceptionally well,” the list described.
“He brings plenty of confidence to the players around him on and off the ball.”
Chappell said he was keen to get back on the field where he played junior footy.
“When I was here I was just a kid but loved playing at such a great family club,” he said.
“Going away I really missed it.
“I’m keen to come back and be part of something special again, it’s great what’s being built at the Diehards and hopefully we can go back to back,” Chappell said.
The Diehards took to social media to share their excitement for the new recruit.
“A welcomed addition to our senior club, Josh came to us as Dalby Devil in under-10s after the good old days of the Tara Panthers,” the club said.
“Great to have you back in the Mighty Maroon Josh!”
