Guests are being invited to tour the brand new Tara Hospital next Monday with the $22.6m site just months away from completion.
The new hospital will be situated on the existing hospital grounds and will provide a wider range of services including emergency care, palliative care, a 12-bed inpatient unit, adult mental health, clinical services and outreach services.
The new building will replace the current eight-bed hospital to service more than 2000 people within the surrounding area as part of the state government’s $943.5m Building Rural and Remote Health Program to replace ageing rural and remote facilities.
Darling Downs Health Service chief executive Annette Scott PSM said the hospital was a significant milestone for public healthcare across the region.
“It is incredible to see construction reaching the final stages after breaking ground earlier this year,” he said.
“Hospitals are at the heart of the community and this new, contemporary facility will improve access to healthcare for residents in Tara and surrounds.
“Tara residents can take pride in their new hospital and the high-quality care our team provides through every stage of their life.”
Darling Downs Heath executive director rural Dr Chris Cowling said the upgraded facility would help meet the growing medical needs of Tara’s residents.
“The $22.6m facility is on track to become operational early next year, until that point, patients can continue to access high-quality health care from the existing hospital,” he said.
“I’d like to thank our hardworking Tara Hospital staff for their continued efforts in caring for the community.”
Tara locals will be able to tour the facility on Monday November 25 between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
