The Western Downs came alive with Christmas cheer with thousands flocking to the grand return of the Dalby Christmas Street Party.

The event, which hadn’t run since 2019, was slated for its long-awaited return after the Dalby Chamber of Commerce opted to postpone their annual Business Excellence Awards in favour of the popular festive event after community feedback.

The Dalby community was thrilled with the return of the party last week after the five year hiatus with more than 3000 people taking to the streets to enjoy the evening.

Held across Cunningham and Archibald streets, crowds of guests enjoyed food trucks, market stalls, and live entertainment with a variety of activities for the kids including jumping castle, petting zoo, laser tag, face painting, and festive Christmas hair braids.

Mayor Andrew Smith read Christmas stories, Santa arrived and the Christmas tree in Mary’s Place was lit before the night concluded with Carols by Candlelight.

Dalby Chamber of Commerce president Phil Ryan said it was great to see the community out in force after several years away.

“It was truly heartwarming to see Dalby turn out in such large numbers,” he said in a press release.

“This event showcased the incredible community spirit we have here in Dalby, and it was wonderful to see families and friends come together to celebrate the magic of Christmas.

“The performances from our local school groups and community organisations were absolutely incredible.

“They brought so much energy and joy to the event, and we couldn’t be prouder of their talent and commitment.”

Mr Ryan thanked everyone for their support.

“This event wouldn’t have been possible without the tremendous support of our sponsors, volunteers, and the entire community,” he said.

“It’s been a challenging few years, but this year’s turnout and enthusiasm remind us of the strength and resilience of Dalby.”

Mr Smith echoed this.

“As we all know, on the Western Downs, it’s the people that make it,’ he said in a press release.

“It’s been a challenging few months for our region, but seeing the resilience and unity of our residents and community groups as they organise remarkable Christmas festivities showcases the community pride we share and the wonderful people who make our region so welcoming and inclusive.”

The Christmas festivities will continue for the remainder of the month.
