Jandowae residents will no longer have to travel up to 30 minutes for fuel with the opening of a brand new service station in town.
Batish Petroleum officially opened its doors last Monday, helping to meet a much needed gap in the market.
Director Sunny Kumar said they had received positive feedback since opening.
“We opened last Monday and the it’s been really good, the community welcomed us warmly, on our Facebook page we had 230 comments and we are getting walk-ins giving us really good feedback on how desperately they needed the service,” he said.
“When I was thinking of the business I had a chat to a few people around the town and got their thoughts on the site being unmanned and they said they desperately needed a manned site and said they can’t get fuel.
“The tank was too small and it was always empty because the big trucks filled up. The towns people couldn't get fuel so they’d have to drive long distances and the price wasn't right.
“I thought it would be a good option to open a store down there and we will be open early from 5am for fuel and a coffee.”
Mr Kumar said the petrol station would help to encourage more people to stop on Jandowae on their way through as well as help the locals.
“I spoke to one lady who used to live in Jandowae for 25 years and she moved out because the town was dying all the businesses were shutting down and you just couldn't get anything but now she is thinking of coming back because there are more options now and there is fuel available,” he said.
“It will also encourage more people who are travelling through to stop and see what the town has to offer.
“The first day we had 16 customers and by the weekend we had 32 and now we are averaging 40 customers a day.”
Mr Kumar encouraged people to come through and see what they had on offer.
“We have drinks, chips, grocery items and we will have coffee by Monday next week and we will have hot food very soon,” he said.
“I have my own brand of fuel and have a fuel depot down in Bowenville so my pricing will be comparable to Dalby so people won't have to drive to Dalby for fuel.
“It will be good for the town good pricing, good service and good grocery items.”
