A 55-year-old man has died after he was found unresponsive following an early morning bicycle crash near Port Douglas.

A 55-year-old man has died after he was found unresponsive following an early morning bicycle crash near Port Douglas.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the man was riding his bicycle along Mowbray River Road, Mowbray, at about 3.30am.

Police believe that the man sustained a head injury after he lost control of his bicycle and crashed at the road-edge of the southbound lane.

The man was found unresponsive by a motorist, who called emergency services.

The 55-year-old, from Bonnie Doon, was declared dead at the scene and the Forensic Crash Unit are investigating.
