A DETECTIVE involved in some of the state’s most high-profile murder cases is being investigated amid allegations he harassed female officers.

Logan Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Furlong is understood to be under investigation after complaints were made about his behaviour by several colleagues.

The Courier-Mail understands Sen-Sergeant Furlong has been stationed at police headquarters in recent weeks after talk circulated about his behaviour towards female officers.

A police source said his computer had been seized as part of an internal investigation and he has been prohibited from having contact with other staff at Logan police station.

It is also understood his office was sealed off as a crime scene for several hours on Wednesday afternoon and Luminol spray used in a bid to uncover evidence.

There is no suggestion that any of the allegations could lead to charges being laid.

Sen-Sergeant Furlong was involved in the investigation into the murder of 16-year-old Larissa Beilby, allegedly killed by her boyfriend Zlatko Sikorsky.

Ms Beilby’s body was found in a barrel on the back of a ute after detectives making inquiries into the teen’s disappearance knocked on Sikorsky’s door.

He was also involved in the investigation into the murder of Shandee Blackburn in Mackay in 2013.

Ms Blackburn’s former boyfriend John Peros was charged with her murder, but a jury found him not guilty. Her death will now be examined by the Coroner’s Court.

Det Snr Sgt Furlong has stepped aside from his role as chairman of the Queensland Homicide Victims Support Group.

He told colleagues on Thursday afternoon that he was currently under investigation.

“The board of directors support this decision,” QHVSG chief executive Brett Thompson told The Courier-Mail.

“The allegations relate to Senior Sergeant Furlong’s employment with Queensland Police Service and not QHVSG.

“The board of directors remain focused and committed to our mission and the support of our members, and are in the process of appointing a chairperson.”

Mr Thompson said the organisation would not be commenting further due to the ongoing investigation.

Queensland Police Service did not address a list of questions submitted by The Courier-Mail, but responded with a statement: “The matter is currently under investigation by the Ethical Standards Command and is subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

“As such it would be inappropriate to comment further on the matter.”
