The head of Sydney’s Kings Cross police station is under investigation after allegations he sexually harassed a female officer.

NSW Police Superintendent Zoran Dzevlan, the local Area Commander of Kings Cross, went on sick leave earlier this year after the complaint was made to his superiors and then forwarded to the NSW Police Professional Standards Command.

The allegations are about inappropriate behaviour towards the junior officer while she was in his office while they were on duty and he was the commander of the station.

NSW Police sources have confirmed Superintendent Dzevlan had been transferred from Wollongong late last year after another internal investigation found that there were managerial issues between him and other officers in the command.

It’s believed the decision to move him to the city was made because of serious tensions between him and a number of other senior officers.

“An investigation is currently underway and the officer is not currently in the workplace,’’ a NSW Police spokesman said today.

The Daily Telegraph understands the most serious allegation surrounds inappropriately hugging the officer while she was in his office but officers from the Professional Standards Unit are yet to formally interview Superintendent Dzevlan officially until he is deemed medically fit. The unit looks into all allegations of police corruption as well as complaints relating to internal complaints relating to workplace misconduct.

A senior source said because the investigation can’t proceed until officers talk to Superintendent Dzevlan he can’t be suspended and is still on full pay.

There is no suggestion the allegations could lead to charges being considered.

The officer at the centre of the allegations has been offered counselling.

Before being transferred from Wollongong to Kings Cross, Superintendent Dzevlan was appointed Commander of the Goulburn area Command in 2013.

During his 30-year career he has worked extensively as a uniform officer in the Campbelltown area before rising through the ranks as a staff officer to former Assistant Commissioner Mark Murdoch.

Over the years he has been a relieving commander in Rose Bay, Sutherland and the City.
