ANTI-DOMESTIC violence protesters gathered outside Parliament House in Brisbane this afternoon as Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath arrived to speak to media.
Ms D’Ath, who primarily discussed youth detention issues, said she had only just been informed of the Pimpama incident.
“First and foremost this is a police matter and a police investigation,” Ms D’Ath said.
“I have not received a briefing on this at this stage obviously because it is a police matter.
“But if there are issues to be looked at in relation to bail and court processes certainly I will seek a brief on that particular incident.
“I have only just become aware of it in the last half hour.”
Ms D’Ath did not rule out a review into bail in Queensland similar to the recent review into the parole system.
“We’re going to look at the issue that occurred this morning, I think we need to be very careful,” Ms D’Ath said.
“Let’s look at the facts and the circumstances.
“I will get a briefing into this particular individual and the bail arrangements but I’m not going to jump to any conclusions.”
About 30 protesters raising awareness of domestic violence issues following two incidents at the end of last year carried roses and placards out the front of Parliament.
But it was a coincidence, they said, that today’s protest fell on the same day of the Pimpama incident.
Freya Morgan from the Brisbane Domestic Violence Service said it was important to ensure the deaths did not go unnoticed.
Ms Morgan said women affected by domestic violence should contact the service on 3217 2544.
