IT’S BELIEVED three children ran to alert neighbours before police found the bodies of a man and a woman inside a southeast Queensland home this morning. The children are now assisting police with the investigation.
Police believe the tragedy at a Pimpama home, on the Gold Coast’s northside, was a domestic-violence related murder-suicide.
UPDATE: WIFE KILLER WAS FREED ON DV CHARGES
Officers were called to the Matas Drive residence about 6.30am and found two people — a 52-year-old man and 40-year-old woman — dead.
Emergency services attended the scene following reports of a “disturbance”.
Detective Inspector Mark Thompson said police were still trying to determine the relationship between the man and the woman but police said children in the house ran to alert neighbours of the deaths.
“Inquiries are in their infancy however I can tell you the two persons were known to each other and at this stage we don’t believe a third party has been involved,” Det-Insp Thomson said.
“There doesn’t appear to be any firearms or weapons of that nature to have been involved in this offence.”
He said the children were helping with the investigation.
“There were children present in the home and they are still assisting police with their enquiries.”
Neighbours have said there was a large police presence at the home earlier this month but said they didn’t hear anything this morning before the discovery.
“We didn’t hear anything or see anything,” one neighbour said.
“A little bit scary ... it’s very quiet. There’s nothing really ever happening, there’s no commotions, so this is a pretty crazy thing to have happened.”
Detective Inspector Mark Thompson said investigations were ongoing but police do not believe a third person was involved in the deaths.
“Any death of this nature is treated as suspicious,” said Det Insp Thompson, indicating only that firearms or “any other weapons of that nature” involved in the deaths.
“It’s very difficult to say it’s a murder-suicide at this time.”
They believe the two deceased were a couple.
Police are treating the deaths as suspicious.
