Prison escapee on the run after mowing down policeman

ESCAPED prisoner Levi Brown has been arrested is being treated by paramedics after he was found on road in Mackay needing medical assistance.

5.50PM: ESCAPED prisoner Levi Brown is being treated by paramedics.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed Brown was arrested after he was found on Bobongies Road needing medical assistance.

She said it was a ‘medically induced incident’ but could not provide further details.

News Corp understands he has been taken to Mackay Base Hospital for treatment, guarded by police.

5.20PM: Escaped prisoner Levi Brown is understood to have been taken into custody.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith has confirmed Brown has been arrested in Habana about 5.15pm.

In bizarre circumstances, police were called to a Bobongies Road address following reports a man was ‘convulsing’ in the middle of the road, however these reports turned out to be false and the man was identified as Brown.

It is unclear if his alleged associate Kiren Hazard has been captured.

UPDATE 3.14PM: Police are still searching for the vehicle used to run down a police officer in North Mackay this morning.

Police claim alleged offenders Levi Brown and Kiren Hazard are in the vehicle.

Police have ‘saturated’ the Homebush area after reports Hazard tried to steal a vehicle from a Homebush Road home.

Reports indicate a homeowner saw a man fitting Hazard’s description try to open the door of his vehicle, only to get back into a Toyota LandCruiser after realising he had been seen. The vehicle left the property at speed.

It is unclear if the matter is related, but police are now investigating the theft of a vehicle and firearms from an Oakenden Road property.

UPDATE 2.30PM: A policeman struck by a stolen vehicle in North Mackay this morning has been transported to hospital.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said the male officer, aged in his 20s, was taken stable to Mackay Base Hospital with abrasions to his leg and arm after being hit by the 4WD on Cremorne St.

Police are still searching for the vehicle, which they claim is being driven by escaped prisoner Levi Brown and his associate Kiren Hazard.

Reports indicate the latest sighting of the 4WD vehicle involved in the incident was at Homebush Road, Homebush.

A policeman has been struck by a car in a dramatic incident in North Mackay this afternoon.

It is understood the incident on Cremorne St is in relation to the arrest of alleged associates of prison escape Levi James Brown.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith, who is on scene, said the police officer was struck by the car and immediately got up and gave chase.

The police officer has injured his leg and was seen limping to the ambulance for treatment.

At least one man is in custody.

Police are searching for the stolen grey 2015 Toyota LandCruiser — registration CAMDEE — believed to be driven by Brown, currently travelling north.

A similar vehicle was reportedly sighted travelling at high speed along Yakapari-Habana Road shortly before 12.30pm.

Police advise members of the public to phone 000 if they see this vehicle, and do not attempt to approach it as firearms are believed to be on board.

— They are driving a stolen grey 2015 Toyota LandCruiser Sahara, registration CAMDEE

— This is the same car that allegedly mowed down a police officer in dramatic scenes at North Mackay this morning

— People are advised to call 000 if they see this vehicle and not to approach it, as police believe firearms may be on-board

— The police officer that was hit is being treated at Mackay Base Hospital for leg injuries but is stable
