Five people charged over alleged bikie drug ring in Brisbane

Five people have been charged after police swooped on an alleged major bikie drug ring operating in Brisbane’s southern and bayside suburbs, uncovering drugs, $300,000 cash, eight cars and more.

COVERT cameras have helped police bring down a sophisticated drug ring that were allegedly hiding packages of drugs in bushland across Brisbane.

Detectives believe the group had ties Comanchero Outlaw Motorcycle Gang and had allegedly been selling cocaine, heroin, methylamphetamine and cannabis for at least five years in Brisbane’s bayside.

Yesterday 20 detectives swooped on properties in Morningside, Fortitude Valley, Alexandra Hills and Birkdale and charged five people after an 18 month investigation into the syndicate.

They seized $300,000 in cash, eight cars worth $227,000, phones, jewellery and gun cases.

Detective senior sergeant Mark Mooney said as part of the investigation, they also allegedly seized 1kg of cocaine and drugs that had been wrapped in plastic bags and buried in bushland at Ransome and Sheldon.

He said police had set up covert cameras and had reviewed “several hundred hours” of surveillance before making the arrests.

“Members of the syndicate were (allegedly) burying drugs and or money in bushlands across Brisbane’s Bayside,” he said.

“The charges are before the court at the moment and we believe this will have a significant impact on the drugs being supplied within the south Brisbane district.”

Snr-Sgt Mooney said police expected to make further arrests but believed the main alleged offenders were in custody.

SES crews were today scouring a private property at Sheldon and council-owned land at Ransome.

Snr-Sgt Mooney said they were expecting to find more drugs and cash.

A 23-year-old Morningside man, a 23-year-old Fortitude Valley man, a 26-year-old Birkdale man, a 32-year-old Morningside man and a 22-year-old Fortitude Valley woman have each been charged with a number serious offences including multiple counts of drug trafficking.

The four men are due to face court on June 6 and the woman is due to face court on July 9.
