Daniel Morcombe’s killer has price on his head in prison with the threat ‘kill him or be killed’

THE killer of Daniel Morcombe has become Wolston Correctional Centre’s top target, with inmates being issued a cold-blooded threat to end his life or face sickening consequences.

THE killer of Daniel Morcombe has become Wolston Correctional Centre’s top target, with inmates told they must “kill him or be killed”.

An ex-prisoner told The Courier-Mail Brett Cowan would not survive the remainder of his term alive, such is the level of hatred for him inside the maximum security jail.

Cowan was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital’s secure unit last month after a bucket of boiling water was poured over his head by fellow inmate Adam Paul Davidson.

Brett Peter Cowan was hospitalised last month after an attack by an inmate.

But the “hot shower” appears to be the least of Cowan’s concerns, with the ex-con telling The Courier-Mail that “prison rules” left inmates no other choice but to inflict pain on the killer of the teenager whenever they got the chance.

“It’s kill him or be killed in there – that’s how it works,” the source said.

“There’s no way he gets out of there alive – every time another bloke gets a chance, they have a crack at him. I hope the public knows that he’s not getting an easy ride in there – it is a living hell for him.”

Cowan was moved into the jail’s general population from a protective cell shortly before the “hot shower” attack, despite fears he would be attacked or killed.

The ex-prisoner said the men behind the attack would be celebrated as heroes.

“Every bloke in there is chomping at the bit to have their own go at him.

“As soon as he was moved out of protection it was on for all money.

“Whoever it is that knocks him off will be treated like a national hero in there.”

A Queensland Corrective Services spokesman said privacy provisions meant no official comment could be made about Cowan’s situation, but added that each prisoner’s safety was a priority.

“The safety of every prisoner, and every staff member within a correctional centre, is a priority for QCS,” he said.
