Swimming: Young athletes have made a splash at the Chinchilla Christian College junior swimming carnival.
Students up to the age of eight took to the water to show off their skills and stood in the stands to cheer on their classmates at the event last Wednesday.
Sports co-ordinator Jessica Seng said the event was a highlight for the junior classes who competed in races and participated in cheers and novelty activities.
"Over the year they've done swimming lessons to develop the different strokes and develop the skills, so they get to actually perform them and compete against others in their year level, which is quite good,” Seng said.
"It's a day that they really get to show how far they've come over the year in those lessons, on top of that they do get to participate in novelty games which are really something that they can enjoy and have a bit of fun while also being in the pool.
"What's really a highlight though is they also help with cheering and just demonstrating team camaraderie for their houses, which are Meshach and Shadrach, so that's something really special for the kids.
"On the day we had quite a big group of secondary helpers as well that really helped to build that team camaraderie.
"Even when we did our cheers we had a lot of volume, a lot of fun, and a lot of enjoyment so that was really a core highlight of the day.”
But what stood out perhaps the most to Seng was the students' fantastic effort and "admirable” participation.
"Many kids actually jumped into the pool and swam and did their best, put their best effort forward, which was fantastic, so that really stood out to me on the day.
"Also the older helpers, the students that are older from secondary that came along to help was just fantastic.
"Their assistance was fantastic to help the younger children and just be support for them.”
