Chinchilla’s dog lovers sent in close to 100 photos of their furry friends, and after handing it over to the readers to decide, the cutest dog across the region has been named.
The polls were close, but one pair of puppy dog eyes was hard to beat.
Rufus the long-haired dachshund has been crowned the winner – with his gorgeous little face melting hearts across the region.
Owner Georgia Walsh said the win was wonderful, but likely came as no surprise to Rufus.
“He’s quite funny, he knows he’s cute. I have a mirror in the lounge and he’s always looking at himself. He’s such a pretty boy,” Ms Walsh said.
The 14-week-old puppy is already getting up to plenty of mischief, with a particular penchant for chewing hair and an insatiable appetite.
Ms Walsh said the young pup was assisted by her older Dachshund Coco in many of his criminal activities.
“I got them to be little partners in crime. They love to steal my shoes and dig holes in the backyard,” she said.
Ms Walsh also revealed the sweet story behind Rufus’ addition to the family, with Coco suffering from bad separation anxiety, so she wanted to get another dog to keep Coco company.
“We got him to help her out and it’s more her helping him out. I didn't’ know how she’d go because she’s a mama's girl, but she’s much better with guests now,” she said.
“She had a phantom pregnancy before we got him, so she thinks he’s her puppy.”
It was a tight competition for the title, with many cute pups entered, here’s the list of the top five runner ups.
