Western Downs police call for help as investigations into suspicious Chinchilla fire continue

Western Downs police have called for public information regarding a ‘suspicious’ fire at Chinchilla that saw metres of grassland destroyed. Full details.

Police are treating a fire that consumed a tree before destroying metres of grassland as “suspicious” as they call on the public for any information.

A QPS spokesman said on May 3 a fire broke out north of the Crossroads intersection at Chinchilla west of Wambo Creek and Chinchilla-Tara Rd.

“It is alleged the fire started at the base of a tree and spread over 100m by 200m of area,” the spokesman said.

They said the fire is being treated as suspicious however no one has been arrested or charged.

Police continue to appeal for any information regarding the fire, and said residents with any details should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
