A 34-year-old Chinchilla woman has plans to move interstate and restart her life after she landed in court following the breakdown of her relationship.

Rebecca Anne Abbas pleaded guilty in Chinchilla Magistrates Court to theft and disqualified driving.

Police prosecutor Chris Hutchins said Abbas was spotted by police driving along Canaga Street, Chinchilla with a demerit point suspended licence on November 29 2022.

Sergeant Hutchins said the defendant told police the reason she drove while disqualified was to get dinner for her partner’s children.

Further, Abbas was caught pocketing and chequing in someone else’s winning pokies ticket valued at $900 four days later on December 3 2022, the court was told.

When police stopped by her house to inquire about the stolen ticket, Abbas fessed up and told police she didn’t know why she picked it up from another player’s machine and cashed it in.

“She seems like someone who was in a desperate place,” Sergeant Hutchins said.

“She might benefit from probation in this time of her life. There’s clearly something going on in her life that’s leading to her poor decision making.”

Defence lawyer Brad Skuse said his client is dealing with depression and anxiety and struggling to deal with the end of her relationship.

He said Abbas plans to move to a remote town interstate with her mother to help her get a fresh start.

”I’m 34-years-old and I never thought I’d be in this position in my life, I’m a good girl,” the defendant said.

“I’m still heartbroken.”

Magistrate Kyna Morice fined Abbas $300 and disqualified her from driving for six months for the driving offence. For the theft offence she was ordered to pay $900 restitution to the Chinchilla RSL and fined $300 with no conviction recorded.
