Claudio Sesia pleads guilty in Chinchilla Magistrates Court to driving unlicensed

A disgruntled man who dumped poo on a regional Queensland police station counter out of protest has landed back in court.

Bizarre road rules that carry big fines

A 66-year-old man “at his wit’s end’’ has landed back in front of the magistrate just one month after being sentenced for dumping a 20kg bucket of poo on a police station counter.

Claudio Sesia pleaded guilty in Chinchilla Magistrates Court to two counts of unlicensed driving.

Police prosecutor Chris Hutchins said Sesia was spotted driving without a relevant licence on Constance St, Miles on June 2 and May 31 this year.

Mr Hutchins told the court Sesia’s behaviour stemmed from an ongoing dispute with the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

“There is a bit of a backstory behind this. There was an issue he had with main roads in relation to some damage to his vehicle,” Mr Hutchins said.

“There were avenues he could have followed, but obviously government departments are quite frustrating and he was getting the run-around.

“He then, perhaps to punish main roads, thought ‘well if you’re not going to help me, I’m not going to pay my registration’.

“He then obviously due to having no luck with them, tried to vent that issue with TMR not understanding that the police station is an agent and he actually vented that with the police and not TMR.

“Until now he’s had relatively no history. It’s an unfortunate circumstance.

“He’s obviously got cultural differences, he’s not from Australia.

“He’s perhaps a man of little means … that’s why he’s at his wit’s end with everything. It’s just caused issue after issue with him.”

Despite prosecution downgrading their initial charge by removing the aggravating factor, Sesia was unhappy as the facts were read aloud in court and he denied refusing to pay his registration out of protest.

Acting magistrate Lisa O’Neill told Sesia he would need to wait for prosecution to finish detailing the facts before speaking.

“You seem frustrated and I understand. The prosecutor … downgraded the charge so that it’s a lesser charge, which means a lesser penalty,” the magistrate said.

“You’ll get an opportunity to tell your story.”

However when the time for Sesia to tell his story arrived he simply stated, “I’m done”.

“Is it going to make a difference?”

When asked by the magistrate if he was struggling with any issues such as depression, Sesia told the court he was dealing with coeliac disease and eventually explained his actions.

“The first reason I drove the vehicle was because I was enraged … I was enraged because I received two infringement notices telling me I was driving an unregistered vehicle.”

Sesia was handed a combined $300 fine referred to SPER and received no driving disqualification period.

No conviction was recorded.
