Claudio Sesia, 66, faces Dalby Magistrates Court for dumping poo on Miles Police Station counter

A man unhappy with an infringement notice caused a stink when he dumped 20kg of ‘sloppy, lumpy matter’ on to the counter of a Queensland police station. See what he claimed the ‘matter’ to be.

A man told a court he damaged a Western Downs police station by dumping a bucket of ‘matter’ in protest against an ongoing dispute with the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Dalby Magistrates Court was told Claudio Sesia walked into Miles Police Station on Wednesday morning, as it’s also used by the public for traffic matters, and announced to staff “I’ve come to pay my infringement”.

Police prosecutor Chris Hutchins told the court the 66-year-old was surrounded by members of the public, which included a three-year-old girl, at the time he entered the station.

Sergeant Hutchins said as Sesia raised the bucket above the police station’s counter an administrative staff member said: “Don’t do it, don’t you dare”.

“(Sesia) tipped the contents out which consisted of sloppy liquid, lumpy matter that smelt like fecal matter,” Sergeant Hutchins said.

“It spread over the front counter leaving liquid, lumpy matter down the counter, on the shelves and carpet, paperwork and office supplies owned by the police.”

Sesia dropped the bucket on the ground causing the matter to spread further before walking out of the station where he was met by police and arrested.

He told the police he was “happy” to be arrested, however refused to re-enter the station by the front door as he didn’t want to step through the matter he’d just dropped.

The court was told Sesia claimed he mixed cow manure with water to turn the matter into a liquid.

Sesia appeared in court by videolink from Chinchilla watch-house, with defence lawyer Julia Molloy submitting that her client had no criminal history, and the dispute with the transport department arising after he claimed his vehicle had been damaged by a cattle grid owned by TMR.

Ms Molloy told the court her client had made multiple attempts to have an invoice settled with the department to have it repaired.

“He’s become exhausted by this red tape, so he’s taken the number plates off as the registration is paid to TMR,” Ms Molloy said.

“He was issued with an infringement notice for removing the plates. He’s become exhausted and had a snap of sorts, and behaved in this matter.”

Acting magistrate Andrew Walker was left baffled as he stated he had never dealt with such an offence.

“I must admit this is a reasonably unique charge,” he said.

“In my experience I’ve not seen anything like this for a long time, if at all.

“I’m not sure what you were trying to do by doing this.”

Sesia pleaded guilty to one count of wilful damage.

He was fined $200 and ordered to pay a compensation fee of $2175 that will go towards the cleaning of the damaged area. No conviction was recorded.
