Western Down’s locals looking to kickstart a new career are encouraged to apply for a 2022 MIGAS and Origin Energy traineeship.
Miles mother Jessica Kent-Lowe said she applied to MIGAS to upskill her mechanical knowledge, advance her mechanical career in the CSG industry and work on more complex pieces of equipment.
“I was so excited to be successful and start my career with Origin. I’ve learnt so much more than I expected to already,” she said.
“I work with a great, understanding, tight-knit team, learning new skills every day. I encourage everyone to give it a go.
“It’s been good to continue to build my communication, problem-solving, strategic thinking, resilience, teamwork, negotiation and leadership skills while having the opportunity to learn first-class technical skills from my supervisors and teachers, adding to what I learnt previously with Black Toyota.”
Ms Kent-Lowe said one of the biggest perks to her new career was being able to go home each night to her 20-acre hobby farm.
Origin Energy Condabri Talinga Orana asset general manager Alexandra Kennedy-Clark said a traineeship or apprenticeship can be a game-changer for those willing to try something new.
“(It) provides an income while students work and learn and provide opportunities that they had never imagined,” she said.
“Individuals can remain living in their community with the support of family and friends, while gaining skills that will set them up for the future.
“Employers like Origin are proud to support the development of highly qualified people who don’t have a study debt to worry about. It’s a win-win.”
Origin facilities manager Talinga Orana Jim Meldrum said one of the biggest positive changes in the company had been the shift to hiring local talent.
“Not only do these trainees learn technical skills, but they develop skills and behaviours which are just as important to career success in their chosen field, while staying in their home communities and building the local talent pool,” he said.
The 2022 MIGAS apprentices and trainees applications will be open until August 27.
Traineeships in well site operations and water treatment are on offer across Origin’s Western Downs assets.
