Days after being freed from a tangled mess of metal that barely resembled a car, a 35-year-old Miles man remains in hospital, fighting for his life.
The man crashed on Warrego Highway at Bowenville on Friday, June 18.
His passenger, pregnant mum of five Brooke Holder, was tragically killed when the Holden Commodore allegedly veered onto the wrong side of the highway and collided with a truck.
The 29-year-old woman’s mother Ruth Deuble said her family had been left shattered following her death, saying Ms Holder “lived for her family”.
A Princess Alexandra Hospital spokeswoman said on Monday, June 21, the driver was still in a critical condition.
“But (he’s) stable in an Intensive Care Unit at the PA Hospital,” she said.
“We can’t provide any more details about injuries and surgeries though, due to confidentiality.”
The middle-aged man had to be removed from the vehicle by fire crews using the jaws of life, and was flown to hospital by LifeFlight with serious injuries to his arms and legs.
Dalby police Senior Constable Brad Davidson said preliminary investigations suggested the Commodore veered onto the wrong side of the road before colliding with a truck.
“The road marking suggest it was on the wrong side of the road and the truck driver has done his best to avoid it,” Constable Davidson said.
“But he has braked significantly prior to the impact.”
Constable Davidson said blood examinations would be conducted at the hospital to determine if alcohol or other substances were a factor.
