The LNP have secured a comfortable victory in Callide, with Bryson Head being re-elected for a second term.
Mr Head easily won the Liberal safe seat, securing 55.86 per cent of the votes and joined the neighbouring Liberal National Party winners in Toowoomba North, Toowoomba South, Condamine, Southern Downs, Warrego, Lockyer and Scenic Rim.
Labor’s Samantha Dendle polled second with 18.58 per cent while One Nation’s Chris O’Callaghan took out third place with 16.21 per cent.
Mr Head said it “very humbling to be re-elected with a strong support from the people of Callide”.
“I have worked hard for the last couple of years and it is good to see that recognised, we know there is now plenty of work to do in government,” he said.
“People have said they appreciate seeing me out and about and I have been very vocal in advocating for some of the key services to be returned to our communities, maternity services being a big one, road upgrades and water security.
“I have been talking about the priorities that matter to Queenslanders, I feel that has been recognised and I am excited for what we have in store.”
Mr Head said he was excited to pick up where he left off and continue projects set in motion during his first term.
“I am really excited about Cooranga Weir, it is obviously in the North Burnett region but it is a $90m project for Callide to improve water security, we’ve got hospital upgrades, my satellite office will open in Chinchilla in the coming weeks and road projects and upgrades,” he said.
“There are laws across the state I am eager to see passed by the end of the year, our new Premier will be meeting with the Department of Justice to ensure the Make Queensland Safer Laws will be drafted up and passed by Christmas.”
Mr Head said his first port of call would be tackling the electorate’s health crisis.
“When our new health minister is sworn in I will be chatting with them and the local health services to get an update on the planned upgrades on the hospital but also to get the truth as to what is required to get maternity services back up and running,” he said.
“We have formally committed to Biloela but I am going to keep fighting to see maternity services restored in more places across regional Queensland and I’m not going to stop fighting to see them back in Chinchilla.”
Mr Head said he was happy to see the confidence his electorate had placed in him for a second term.
“It is nice that the people I have been working with over the last couple of years have turned around and offered their support to me at the ballot box,” he said.
“We know everything is done one election at a time and I am now eager to re-prove myself to everyone who gave me their support and even those who didn't to earn their trust and hopefully have them consider voting for me next time.
“I will not take a backwards step in the work I’ve been doing and I’ll keep working hard for those who put their trust in me.”
