Chinchilla woman wins Play For Purpose $250,000 first prize pack

Christmas came early for a Chinchilla woman who won the grand prize of a charity raffle on her last day of work. Here’s what she said.

A Chinchilla woman finished her working year by striking gold after she found out she won a massive $250,000 prize as part of the Play For Purpose raffle.

The Western Downs resident’s first prize included a new Range Rover Evoque valued at $111,551 and $138,449 in cashable gold bullion, with the raffle raising money for Rural Aid.

The woman, who was busy at work, was startled and in denial when she first received the call from a Play For Purpose official who delivered the good news.

“Are you sure? Did I really win?” she asked.

“It’s a lovely present to receive right before Christmas. It’s my last day at work for the year before I enjoy my Christmas break. What a surprise.

“I’ve been supporting Rural Aid and similar charities in Chinchilla, since 2019 - they’re all very worthy causes.

“In 2019, we were severely impacted by the drought in our area, and our land was dry, dry, dry, and the local dam was empty.

“We used to have a lot of cattle on the land, and it was so devastating to see. We’ve retrieved most of it now, but it really does leave a mark.”

The winner said she was appreciative that there were charities giving back to registered and individual farmers impacted by natural disasters.

“A lot of people need help, and it’s easy to forget,” she said.

She said the prize came at a perfect time in her family’s life, as they’ve always planned to sell their two older cars when she retired; however, now they don’t have to because of the new car.

“Funnily enough, this isn’t the first time I’ve won a car,” she said.

“The last one was over a decade ago, so we’re really grateful!

“I think the winning news will hit me in a little while. It’s hard to process.”
