WORKCOVER is investigating after a man suffered serious burns in an explosion at Broadwater sugar mill this morning.

The man, who was believed to be about 40, was airlifted to Royal Brisbane Hospital's burns unit by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter in a stable condition.

UPDATE 12.40pm: The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter has landed in the car park opposite the Broadwater sugar mill to retrieve a man who is suffering serious burns.

The crew are preparing to transport the man to the Royal Brisbane Hospital's burns unit.

UPDATE 11.55am: THE Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter has been re-tasked to Broadwater sugar mill where a man is suffering serious burns.

Helicopter Fundraising Manager Zeke Huish said the man, who is about 40, will be assessed to determine whether he requires airlifting to a specialist Queensland hospital.

INITIAL REPORT: EMERGENCY Services have been called to the Broadwater sugar mill after reports a man has suffered serious burns.

A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics were called to the premises on the Pacific Highway at Broadwater at 10.40am.

The spokeswoman said the initial triple-O call reported a man aged about 40 has suffered serious burns from a boiler incident.

Paramedics are assessing the patient.

The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was called off enroute to Broadwater after paramedics advised the patient would be transported by road.
