Work on a new multi-million dollar upgrade to Blackwater’s new hospital is getting closer to beginning with tenders for the project awarded.
Hutchinson Builders was awarded the tender to build the new $26.5 million facility.
Tenders for the project were released in January for the new hospital in Blackwater and Moranbah.
The new hospital will replace the current Blackwater Multipurpose Health Service facility, promising a new era of combines quality health and aged-care services for the community.
The new hospital will include both acute and non-acute inpatient medical services, palliative care, radiography and accident and emergency services.
It will also offer residential aged care.
During construction the project will deliver 73 jobs to the region.
Current operations at the existing health facility will not be impacted while the new hospital is being built.
Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service chief executive Dr Emma McCahon welcomed the announcement.
“Our staff at Blackwater do a great job of caring for their community every day, and this new, contemporary multipurpose health service will enhance the care and service they provide,” she said.
The design for the new hospital will involve modern construction methods to ensure the replacement facility is delivered as quickly as possible and on budget.
The 2021-22 State Budget included a commitment to build the new Blackwater hospital as part of Phase 1 of the Building Rural and Remote Health Program.
The new Blackwater Multipurpose Health Service features modern design and a practical fit-out, ensuring the needs of the community are met now and into the future.
