A resort on Great Keppel Island is evacuating all of its guests and most of its staff tomorrow morning due to the approaching threat of Cyclone Alfred.

Great Keppel Island Hideaway issued advice on its Facebook page about the “temporary closure” of the resort.

“Due to the predicted strong winds from Tropical Cyclone Alfred, we are evacuating the island from 10am Thursday,” the post reads.

“We will be closed to the public from February 27 to March 2 with the possibility of reopening again on Monday (subject to change).”

Keppel Konnections is providing the 10am transfer off the island tomorrow with about 65 people, including guests from other accommodation houses and some staff, believed to be travelling back to the mainland.

A small number of GKI residents and permanent staff are expected to remain on the island.

The sea conditions were picking up in Rosslyn Bay Wednesday afternoon with winds on the Capricorn Coast hitting 70kmh at 3.15pm.
