QFES advises of smoke affecting visibility along Dawson Highway

Emergency services warn the highway could be closed if conditions worsen.

Drivers travelling between Springsure and Rolleston are urged to proceed with caution as smoke from a nearby fire is affecting the highway.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services issued a warning at 10.30am on Monday, advising of a fire at Albinia National Park, west of Rolleston.

It warned that smoke was affecting the Dawson Highway, reducing visibility between Springsure and Rolleston.

Drivers and surrounding residents have been urged to avoid driving through smoke where possible and be aware of firefighters working in the area, stay indoors, and close windows and doors and keep respiratory medication close by.

A QFES spokesman says there is no direct threat to property at this time, although the road may be closed if conditions worsen.
