Audi and Skoda have joined parent company Volkswagen in the Australian recall.
Vehicles from Volkswagen affected are the Golf, Jetta, Polo, Passat and Caddy models made between June 2008 and September 2011.
Audi's models in question, A1 and A3 hatchbacks, were built between 2008 and 2011, and are powered by turbocharged, four-cylinder 1.4-litre and 1.8-litre engines.
Skoda, Volkswagen's Czech-based budget offshoot, has recalled 1746 Octavia and Superb cars equipped with the seven-speed transmission.
