Clermont woman Lynette Jones sadly lost her battle to cancer

“She had the heart of a lion and stood tall in the face of adversity”: Lynette Jones played an active role in the community for more than 40 years before.

A ‘bright light’, vibrant woman and dedicated community member is how some have remembered Clermont’s Lynette (Lyn) Jones, who sadly died on Sunday, July 4, after a “short but fierce” battle with terminal cancer.

She was involved in many community groups across the region for more than 40 years and was known in recent years for her role as councillor with Isaac Regional Council, fighting for the betterment of the Clermont community.

“Lyn was a passionate and respected member of our council team, and her commitment to the Clermont community was unwavering during her terms,” Mayor Anne Baker said.

“Councillor Jones called it how she saw it.

“Her authenticity, selflessness and compassion endeared her to many.

“Lyn was not afraid to make tough decisions in the best interest of the community.

“Words will never do justice to the fierce woman Lyn was. She had the heart of a lion and stood tall in the face of adversity.

“I am devastated at the loss of our close friend and confidant. Her infectious laugh and humour will be missed.”

Her family took to Facebook on Monday to reveal that “our vibrant, compassionate, V8 loving Lynette Jones” passed away.

“Gone from this world but never from our hearts,” the post read.

Mrs Jones has been labelled a mentor, loving mother and friend by many across the community, who have shared their condolences to Straw, Sara, her grandchildren, Axel, Kris, Charlie, Robbie and their extended families.

“Had the pleasure of sitting on many committees with Lyn. She was so passionate about Clermont community. I will miss her lovely smile and her great sense of humour,” one person wrote.

“Your dedication to this community and those who loved you dearly will never be forgotten. Fly high beautiful lady,” another person added.

“Our deepest sympathies to Lyn’s loved ones, her vibrant personality, dry sense of humour and smile will be gone but never forgotten,” a community member shared.

Details of the celebration of her life will be advised by the family.

“Thank you to all those who have sent messages of love and support – they have warmed our hearts,” a family member said.
