South Burnett parents excited for new play area at Wondai Pool

South Burnett’s parents and children are keen to see a new water play area progress as construction work begins. See the plans.

Parents and children are keen to make a splash with South Burnett Council confirming a new water play area will be ready in December.

The water play area being built at the Wondai Pool and Family Fitness will feature a meandering stream with various outlets, sprays, and fountains.

A South Burnett Regional Council spokesman said the project received grant funding from the federal government.

“Council appreciates the support from the Building Better Regions Fund to help finance this community project,” he said.

Council spokeswoman Joanne Newbery said it would be constructed by Playscape Creations.

“This project has engaged several local contractors,” she said.

More than 140 people took to Facebook to share their excitement.

School Chaplain Deb Horne said it was a great addition for children because it could contribute to healthy respect and love for water through play.

“I think this would be a great way to safely introduce them to water in a fun way,” she said.

Mondure mother Maddighan-Kate Taylor said it was important for children and parents to have access to places that encourage them to be social.

“Water parks are great ways to encourage children not only to socialise but to gain valuable life skills and the lessons they learn playing in and around water in a controlled environment could prove life saving,” she said.

South Burnett resident Tara Irvine said it is so good to finally see things families can do in the region.

“Bring on some more parks for bigger kids and places to BBQ,” she said.

Ms Newbery said Wondai pool would remain open during the construction.

“Visitors to the pool need to be mindful that there will be additional noise and dust during construction,” she said.

The new water play area at Wondai Pool to be ready by mid December.
