North Burnett property owners with unpaid rates are at risk of having their homes and properties sold out from under them, as the council moved to recover tens of thousands of dollars in unpaid rates.
Five houses were sold at public auction on September 6, 2022, which recouped more than $270,000 for the council coffers.
However, nine houses listed for that auction were passed in, and now the North Burnett Regional Council has made plans to offer them again with revised reserves.
A council spokesperson said the auctions were “the final option for recovery of unpaid rates”.
“Ratepayers who enter into an acceptable arrangement and honour the repayments will not be subject to further debt recovery action,” the spokesperson said.
