Queensland's confronting road safety campaign

A man has been fined for failing to report a serious crash after rolling his car at Deep Creek on Thursday night, leaving emergency services searching through bushland for the missing driver.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene of a serious rollover on Gayndah Mundubbera Road, near Arabanga bridge, at about 10pm.

Gayndah officer-in-charge Sergeant Don Auld said the driver was not found in the vehicle.

Witnesses at the scene told police they thought they heard the driver calling out from further down the road, however a search of surrounding scrubland failed to find him.

Sergeant Auld said officers were concerned the driver had injured himself and needed immediate care.

The driver was found to next day with a minor scratch to his leg. He told police he’d crashed at about 8pm and rang a friend to pick him up, leaving the car on the side of the road.

A 37-year-old Mundubbera man was fined $275 for failing to report a serious crash at the time of the incident.
