Morton guitar sold

Gayndah's Monster Garage Sale raised $3000 for maintenance of St Matthew's Anglican Church Hall last weekend.

IT WAS a huge weekend for Gayndah with Armistice Day celebrations in all corners of town and Christmas decorations adorning the streets, but that didn't stop an impressive crowd lining up out the doors of St Matthew's Anglican Church for its annual Monster Garage Sale.

Church member Kay Wharton said the numbers were slightly down on previous years but they still hit their usual fundraising efforts with almost $3000 made.

The sale will also featured jewellery, books, crockery and cookware, antiques, furniture and more, with the most expensive item up for sale being a 1951 Tex Morton guitar listed at $200.

Mrs Wharton said the 67-year-old acoustic guitar didn't quite go for asking price but a reasonable offer wasn't far off the mark.

"They were really happy with their purchase and I was happy to hand it over to them,” she said.

"People travel such great distances to come to this sale and I think everybody found something for themselves.”

Money made from the sale will be used primarily for maintenance of the church hall.

"We have a lot of maintenance due for our church hall,” Mrs Wharton said.

"We're also looking at having a priest organised to come on a regular basis in the future.”
