THE player who took over from Jarryd Hayne as the San Francisco 49ers' punt returner has been injured and carted off the field in the opening minutes of their clash.
Reggie Bush caught the first punt of the game, ran across field for no gain, slipped over on a hardened area just off the playing surface and injured his knee, Fox Sports reported.

The 49ers also lost their rookie Mike Davis who injured his hand, which left Kendall Gaskins as the only healthy running back in the game.

In the same week Hayne was cut, first choice running back Carlos Hyde stayed in San Francisco listed inactive for the St Louis game as he continues to recover from a foot stress fracture.

Hayne's fate likely to be known on Tuesday morning Australian time when it is expected to be revealed if another NFL team has picked him up, or if not, whether the 49ers signed him to their practice squad.
