MOUNT PERRY has just one race day every year, and that means they give it everything they've got.
The North Burnett and surrounding regions came out in droves, guests landed track-side in planes and an enthusiastic crowd swarmed to the fences at every horse, or human, race.
North Burnett Regional councillor John Bowen was chuffed with the turnout and organisation of the day.
"We've got heaps of people here, around a hundred caravans, to me it's just like a second Birdsville,” he said.
"For sure having our gold used for 2018 Melbourne cup has added excitement to our races.
"People are walking aroud with their Melbourne Cup badges that they got when the cup visited and you look over the hill just there and crikey, that's where the Melbourne Cup came from.”
Cr Bowen said his favourite part of the Mount Perry races was seeing all the familiar faces as he was selling bar tickets, and watching locals come together.
