Queensland Fire and Rescue are at the scene of a large fire burning north of Miles.

Police are investigating a deliberately lit fire in the North Burnett over the weekend which has reportedly caused “significant damage” to a nearby business.

Emergency services were called to Capper St, Gayndah, on Sunday, April 27, just before 2.30pm after receiving reports of a tree on fire on the busy shopping area.

One rural fire crew was first on scene, with two more fire and rescue crews arriving shortly after.

According to a Queensland Fire Service spokesman, the base of a palm tree had caught alight and the fire was climbing up the trunk.

The fire was under control by 3pm and had been completely extinguished by 3.15pm.

Police have confirmed the fire spread to a nearby business, believed to be the Mitre 10, and caused damage to stock.

No one was injured during the incident.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police.
