COUNCILLOR John Bowen was shocked when he arrived at Mt Perry Sports and Recreation Club this morning to find extensive vandalism.

Around 25 fully established trees had been chopped down in the area without North Burnett Regional Council approval.

Palm trees, lily trees and melaleuca trees were among the mix.

"I started receiving calls yesterday afternoon about trees being cut down around the sporting complex,” Cr Bowen said.

"When I arrived this morning I was just devastated to see the damage that had been done by a group working in Mt Perry.

"Council will be investigating to see who gave the orders for these trees to be cut down.”

The incident comes as Councillor John Zahl and local organisations begin planting 20 hoop pine trees in Gayndah for Armistice Day.

"What has happened in Mt Perry is vandalism and it's not acceptable in our communities,” Cr Bowen said.
