Queensland Coroner Terry Ryan on Monday outlined how Young murdered the people he shared a home with.

Young was shot to death shortly after he murdered David Young and Louise Dekens.

Mr Ryan said the 42-year-old stabbed his brother multiple times in the head, chest and back in the kitchen of their home on August 21.

Ms Dekens tried to escape but Young caught her, stabbing her twice in the chest.

He then stabbed Ms Dekens twice in the chest before confronting police with a machete.

"His (Young's) mental state played a role in the deaths," Mr Ryan said.

"Young … experienced a marked deterioration in his mental health prior to the deaths.

"David Young died of multiple stab wounds inflicted on his chest, back and head by his brother.

"Ms Dekens died from two stab wounds to the chest - one penetrating through the front and one through the back."
