FEDERAL Member for Flynn Ken O'Dowd has encouraged students and schools across the region to acknowledge the hard work of their teachers and celebrate World Teachers' Day this Friday.

"Teachers and school leaders play a critical role in the lives of our kids.” Mr O'Dowd said.

"Everyone can remember the teachers who had the biggest impact on their own education.”

Mr O'Dowd said World Teachers' Day was an opportunity to pay tribute to every teacher for the passion they brought to their job.

"In Flynn there are amazing teachers working across our 126 state, Catholic and independent schools,” he said.

"Our hardworking local teachers in Flynn deserve our thanks every day, but on World Teachers' Day we are reminded just how much of a contribution they make to our community.”

World Teachers' Day will be celebrated on Friday and coincides with State Education Week, which ran from Sunday and continues until Saturday.

Education Minister Grace Grace said the week was an important celebration of education and a chance for schools to further connect with their communities.

The theme for State Education Week is Celebrating Our Community.

Ms Grace said ensuring successful education, and supporting bright futures for young people was a community effort.

"The week will culminate in World Teachers' Day on Friday 26 October - a chance to thank the more than 50,000 teachers who inspire our students every day, harness the talent within our state schools and showcase what is unique about each of our communities,” she said.
