CALLUM "Bubba” Evans said his performance at Queensland State Athletics last week was his best ever.
Representing Burnett State College and the Wide Bay region, Evans placed third in the 800 metre event with a time of 1:58:63.
He said compared to competing at local events, State Athletics was much more competitive, at a bigger stadium and with a tartan track.
"And I was a lot more nervous,” Evans said.
"I think my training paid off, I made a decision to put in an extra effort this year and I'm pretty happy with what I achieved.”
The Gayndah athlete just missed out on gaining selection into the State Team, as they only take the first two.
"I am going to have a break over the holidays but I am continuing to train and focus on setting new goals for my final year next year,” he said.
There was only .02 second between Evans and first place winner William Barker.
He was holding second place until seconds before the finish line where he was caught by Kalani Lang.
Evans placed second in the 800 metres when he competed at State Little Athletics in March this year.
