The Journey Bargara has established quite a name for itself, tucked away in the heart of the region’s coastal centre - and its set to do the same in the Bundaberg CBD.

For those who enjoy a cuppa from The Journey Bargara, fear not – it’s not going anywhere Instead, the business will open a second cafe in the Laneway on Woongarra St.

The Journey owner Mat Grills said the new cafe will provide the “same service, experience, vibe and cool experience we have and continue to provide in Bargara”.

He said their motto has always been to help someone leave the shop feeling better than when they arrived.

“Coffee is a big part of that, but service and relationship is a much, much bigger part of that story,” Mr Grills said.

“We want to build community around the shop in The Laneway and create a family there like we have at The Journey Bargara.”

After years of looking for a second location, the right time and place aligned for The Journey Laneway.

“It has always made business sense to open a shop in town, however, we are and have been very picky about locations,” he said.

“We wanted to make sure the space, feel, vibe and area was in alignment with our current model.

“When I found out about The Laneway on Woongarra and went there for one of the night markets, the spot felt perfect.

“It ticked all the boxes, felt like it was where we were meant to be, and when a shop space became available, we jumped at the opportunity.”

He said they wanted to “continue to be a ‘destination’ location” and the laneway fits the bill.

“One you have to find and not just know it is there,” he said.

“The Laneway is perfect and ticks all those boxes.

“Additionally, the girls in The Laneway businesses currently are fantastic.

Ladies of the Laneway: Amanda Gear (Amanda Gear Makeup and Brow Artistry), Alexa Young (Wonderland Movement which has now moved to 31 Bingera St), Lennee Graham (St Blonde), Stephanie Partridge (Stephanie Partridge Hairstylist), Jane Hart (Jane Hart Photography) all have their businesses in what's been dubbed The Laneway on Woongarra.

“They have done an amazing job creating a beautiful, vibrant and energetic cool place to be and we wanted to be a part of that also.”

For those who want to be a part of The Journey team, now’s the time to apply.

Mr Grills said they were looking for four more staff and any qualified cafe workers or baristas interested in joining The Journey are encouraged to head to the shop and introduce themselves.

He said their number one focus was providing the highest standard espresso in the area.

“Coffee is always number one,” Mr Grills said.

“We also sell a variety of other cold drinks and smoothies and then a wide range of healthy, no processed sugar (a lot of gluten free) plant-based food from muffins, breads, raw slices, wraps and similar items.”

The projected opening date is November 12, and while operating hours are still being planned, 6am-4pm weekdays and 6am-noon on weekends could be when the coffee is brewing.

He said the public seemed “super stoked and excited” by the news.

“The response has been pretty overwhelming to be honest,” he said.

The Laneway on Woongarra is at 53 Woongarra St.
