The childrens playground areas at Mary Kinross Park in Bargara have been temporarily closed to the public following recent acts of vandalism.
In a media release shared by Bundaberg council on Tuesday it was reported amounts of smashed glass were found scattered throughout the area, including in the softfall of the three play equipment spaces.
Council officers have tried to clean up the debris near Rifle Range Beach but due to the extensive amount of glass it was determined that the softfall material would need to be completely replaced.
Mayor Helen Blackburn said the act was selfish and disappointing.
“Not only does it pose a significant safety risk, but it also incurs unnecessary costs to the ratepayer.
“We encourage anyone who has witnessed the behaviour to come forward and report it to police.”
The pathway connecting the three play areas will remain open until softfall removal works begin on January 28.
The space is expected to reopen to the public by January 30, pending weather and material delivery.
