A Bundaberg diver has shared his tale of bagging the ultimate catch, but with a twist.

His prized find wasn’t a fish, but a $100,000 diamond.

The man, who went only by his first name of Stuart, called in to the Triple M Rush Hour program where he told hosts Annabelle Brett and Elliot Lovejoy all about that day out on a coral reef.

“About 10 years ago, I was diving down, snorkelling around this reef, and something caught my eye so I dived a bit further down and I grabbed it,” he said.

The shiny object turned out to be a 2.5 carat diamond.

After asking others aboard the same cruise if the gem had been theirs, the man decided to hang on to it and still keeps it in a safe at his Bundaberg home.

“I told them I’d found a stone a precious stone, I didn’t say any more than that,” he said.

“But (I told them) that if anyone lost it on this cruise they can come into my cabin and if they can describe what it is - it’s theirs.

“I didn't say any more than that.”

The location of Stuart’s cruise was not disclosed.

Stuart said the gem never left his home and he had resisted any temptation to sell it.
