Spring Lakes retirement resort opens in Bundaberg

A new, 180-home retirement resort to open in Bundaberg is set on 20 hectares and has its own 160-tree citrus orchard, pools, library, cinema and nine-hole golf course.

A new Bundaberg retirement resort to open on Friday will be unlike anything the region has ever seen.

The over-50s resort will feature a long list of attractions, including a 160-tree citrus orchard for residents, a library and cinema and nine-hole golf course.

Spring Lakes is set on 50 acres (20ha) of riverfront land at Avoca and will be officially opened by Bundaberg councillor Steve Cooper.

The resort will also feature 29 acres of golf course and open space.

The timing of the official opening coincides with Bundaberg being in the wider real estate spotlight as capital city dwellers move north to secure a more relaxed lifestyle with uncrowded beaches and great local amenities.

Project manager Grant Botica said Spring Lakes Resort was the first of its kind in the city and was created with baby boomers and interstate retirees in mind, without limiting the opportunity to live an active senior lifestyle.

“Bundaberg has been Wide Bay’s best kept secret for too long,” he said.

“It is now the awakening giant of the region and is known for its climate which is similar to Hawaii.”

Facilities include a nine-hole golf course, an outdoor lap pool and covered heated pool, a 160-tree residents’ citrus orchard, a gymnasium, a library and billiard room, a ballroom with a performance stage, a 32-seat cinema, a lakeside park with fire pit and barbecue facilities, a tiger turf bowling green, a clubhouse barbecue and a pizza oven.

Mr Botica highlighted construction had already generated hundreds of jobs with an estimated $95 million injected into the local economy when fully developed.

“We expect to complete a total of 180 homes over the next six years,” he said.

“Spring Lakes Resort offers the only opportunity of its type close to Bundaberg city centre, railway station, airport and major shopping centres.

“Importantly, there are also great health facilities and services nearby – both public and private, not to mention Brisbane being quickly accessible by air or Tilt Train.”

Mr Botica said as a gated and safe community the location offered residents peace of mind when it came to their personal security.

“The resort is located in an enviable environment with great potential as an emerging investment opportunity in retirement real estate,” he said.

“The region’s strong and resilient economy is continuing to grow in keeping with manageable population growth.

“Retirement brings endless possibilities and Spring Lake Resort fits perfectly as a highly desirable place to live and invest.”

Spring Lakes resident Helen Stitt said the resort offered the high-quality amenities she and husband Colin were looking for and at a price point which offered great value.

“Retirement doesn’t mean you stop living and enjoying life,” she said.

“Spring Lakes Resort offers so many options which allows you to maintain popular sports like swimming and other outdoor recreation like lawn bowls which will be completed in the near future.

“I find the location is very convenient with a wide range of facilities and major shopping nearby.”

Mrs Stitt said she was looking forward to meeting other new residents.

Spring Lakes Resort is located at 4 River Springs Drive, Avoca.
