Big relief is coming to more 600 social homes in Bundaberg, with ceiling fans set to be installed across the region.
About 50 per cent of social housing tenants are currently living without fans in department-owned properties.
In a statement to the media, State LNP Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said all social homes would have ceiling fans in living areas and bedrooms by the end of 2027-28.
“Our summers are scorching, the last week in particular has been extremely unforgiving with heatwaves gripping the region and state,” Mr Bennett said.
“People who are doing it tough shouldn’t have to struggle through this heat with no reprieve.
“This is a long overdue improvement that will make an immediate difference to vulnerable Queenslanders, particularly the elderly, babies and young children, and those with medical conditions.”
The move is part of a $98m program aimed at improving living conditions and lowering energy bills for social housing tenants.
The four-year program also includes a range of energy-saving improvements, such as ceiling insulation, energy-efficient hot water systems, solar panels, and cooling solutions in Queensland’s hottest areas.
