PEOPLE’S Day at the 2010 Bundaberg Show is on track to go down in history as the biggest on record, with thousands of people flooding through the gates yesterday.

The show society is still tallying the numbers, but treasurer Wendy Bust said she was confident the entry figures would surpass last year’s record crowd.

“It has been going brilliantly,” Mrs Bust said.

“We are really hoping we can handle it. We’ve got twice the amount of change but I don’t know if it will be enough.”

Mrs Bust said although Tuesday’s showers had dampened the show society’s hopes of good weather, the conditions had been perfect.

“The weather conditions have been just superb,” she said.

Mrs Bust said she believed the huge crowds were due to a number of factors.

“There is just so much to do,” she said.

“We have some of the best horses in the country here and there’s the cattle and the pavilion, and of course all of the rides.”

Mrs Bust said the fireworks were a favourite as always.

“People just love them,” she said.

The grand parade featured plenty of showgirls and show cars, and Mrs Bust said the official opening was being hailed as one of the best in years.

“It was brilliant,” she said.

“Everyone keeps saying how great it was.”

Showgirl Nadia Schmidt said she was enjoying her show duties.

“It has been going great,” she said.

“I’ve mainly been doing all the sashing.”

With her great-great-grandfather a founding member of the Bundaberg Show, Miss Schmidt said it was a real family affair.

“There is definitely a big family connection,” she said.

“My dad is the vice-president of the show society and a lot of my aunts and uncles are involved.”

Miss Schmidt said her show duties were not unfamiliar.

“I’ve been in the show society for a long time, so I know what I’m doing,” she said.

“It’s really nice to be here representing it.”

The show goes into its final day today, wrapping up with a rodeo tonight.
