Tay-lah Marquita Vo pleaded guilty to 11 counts of supplying dangerous drugs and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, possessing items used in the commission of a crime and possessing utensils or pipes.

Police prosecutor Andrew Powis told the court Vo had been picked up for her offending in November of 2023, when police pulled over a red Suzuki Swift and noticed a “strong odour of cannabis”.

Vo and the driver of the car were detained while police searched the car.

“The defendant made a declaration to police that there was cannabis in the vehicle and police also observed a huge water pipe,” Senior Constable Powis said.

“A check of the defendant’s bag located several bags of cannabis, also a bumbag with five clip seal bags of cannabis … in total there was 138 grams of cannabis located.”

Snr Const Powis said police seized Vo’s phone, which revealed messages indicating she had sold small amounts of cannabis to her friends and family.

Due to Vo’s lack of criminal history, Snr Const Powis submitted Vo be given probation, a suspended sentence or community service for her offending.

Jennifer Walden appeared for Vo and told the court the young pub worker had been influenced into joining the drug scene by her partner of 12 years.

“She’s just come out of a long-term relationship … it’s the only relationship she has had and I am instructed that she was influenced in that relationship via their social drug use,” Ms Walden said.

She said that since the relationship had ended Vo had ended her drug reconnected with family the relationship had separated her from.

She further informed the court due to a diagnosis of epilepsy, Vo was unable to drive and often walked the two hours between her home and her workplace, limiting her ability to undertake community service, as suggested by Mr Powis.

Vo was placed on 12 months probation, with forfeiture orders on everything except her mobile phone.

No convictions were recorded.
