Rayden Anton Knoessl in court over vehicle offences

A young man has learned it costs a lot to disobey the law when it comes to vehicular offences.

What happens when you are charged with a crime?

A Bundaberg teen was fined $900 on Monday for driving an uninsured and unregistered car without ever having held a licence.

Rayden Anton Knoessl, 19, pleaded guilty in Bundaberg Magistrates Court to driving uninsured, driving without a licence (never having had a licence) and driving an unregistered vehicle.

The court heard that Knoessl had been spotted outside the Melbourne Hotel on Targo St on April 5 when reports were made of a suspicious looking vehicle.

According to police, when they met with the defendant he said he hadn’t been driving, but officers had seen him in the driver seat and the engine was still warm.

Further checks revealed the Mazda 323 carried registration plates for a Ford Focus.

Police said Knoessl then admitted he had been driving with no licence and was not registered.

The court heard he had planned to get a road worthy, get his car registered and insured but “hadn’t got around to it”.

Magistrate John McInnes acknowledged that Knoessl had made an early plea of guilty, was very young and was a first-time offender.

“If you were a bit older or had any previous convictions, you would have got a much higher fine today,” Mr McInnes said.

Knoessl was fined $900, referred to SPER, and disqualified from driving for three months.

No conviction was recorded.
