Jayden Richard Burke in court for public nuisance

A man went on an angry, drunken rampage outside a Bundaberg pub, threatening chaplains, swearing at patrons and ultimately trying to flush a prison jumper down the toilet.

Bundaberg dad Jayden Richard Burke didn’t really have any explanation for his actions on the night he went on an angry, drunken tirade outside Club Central.

Appearing in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday, Burke pleaded guilty to being a public nuisance in the early hours of May 14, 2022.

Police prosecutor Andrew Powis said Burke’s actions had been “out of character”.

It was heard that about 2am, some chaplains had been helping someone outside when Burke started yelling at them, calling them “f------ scum dogs” and “f------ losers”.

Sergeant Powis told the court Burke had been seen raising his hands and trying to start a physical fight with the chaplains.

The court heard that Burke had followed the chaplains when they had retreated to their vehicle to avoid him.

He then started abusing patrons who were leaving Club Central and was seen walking in the middle of the street, it heard.

He was abusive and threatening with police when they apprehended him, and tried to flush a prison jumper down the toilet in the watch house.

Magistrate John McInnes told Burke, who represented himself, that it was of concern he had remained belligerent for a while.

“You seemed to stay angry for a long time,” he said.

Mr McInnes noted Burke’s lack of relevant history and plea of guilty.

He was fined $850, referred to SPER.

No conviction was recorded.
