Police charge local man with arson after Bundaberg house blaze

Detectives have charged a Bundaberg man with arson and will allege he set the home ablaze early Saturday morning before fleeing the scene.

Detectives from Bundaberg Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a 42-year-old man with arson following a house fire at Svensson Heights on Saturday.

Police will allege just before 5.30am, the man deliberately set fire to the Montgomery St property before fleeing the scene on foot.

Upon arrival, emergency services located the house “well alight”, and police declared a crime scene.

No one was physically injured during the alleged incident.

The 42-year-old Svensson Heights man was taken into police custody just after 5pm on Saturday.

He has been charged with one count of arson and is due to appear at Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday.
